About us
Hi, I'm Flavia, and together with my husband and our two children, we live in beautiful Northern NSW.
We've been homeschooling our oldest son since he was five years old, and it didn't take long to realise that he learned best when he was genuinely interested in what he was doing. Instead of trying to recreate school at home, we planned our year around a mix of book work, excursions, hands-on projects and authentic learning experiences. We loved giving our children opportunities to learn from people who were knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about what they did, whether that was an artist, scientist, builder, musician or someone with a fascinating skill to share.
From the very beginning, we knew we didn't want to write lesson plans or follow a pre-made curriculum. We wanted the freedom to adapt our plans as our children's interests changed and to take advantage of unexpected opportunities along the way. Instead, we planned our year around our children's interests while keeping curriculum outcomes in mind.
Over the years, I developed a planning system that kept us organised without taking away the flexibility that makes homeschooling so special. Eventually, I realised other homeschooling families might find it helpful too. That's how the Homeschool Planner came to life.
Creating this planner has brought together so many of the things I love. I've worked in the online space for more than 20 years, and while design has never been my profession, I've always loved creating beautiful things. I also love planning, organising and—I'm definitely what some people call a "paper snob"! Give me a beautiful journal, planner or notebook over another app any day. There's something special about holding your plans in your hands, scribbling notes in the margins and flicking back through a year full of memories.
My hope is that this planner gives other homeschooling families the confidence to create a year that works for them. Especially if you're new to homeschooling, it's easy to wonder whether you're doing enough. I want to reassure parents that children don't all learn in the same way or at the same pace. With the right tools, fun experiences and the freedom to follow their interests, children can thrive.
I hope this planner helps you spend less time worrying about planning and more time enjoying the adventure of homeschooling together.
